But the plant is using nitrogen, not aminoacids directly.

Yes, but they can synthesize all the 20 aminoacids. I mean the used part of the insect is 'nitrogen'. But anyway, protein is not a wrong word either.

Yes it is... What i was trying to say is that if you say "It needs nitrogen" to a non-geek person they will ask "What does it need nitrogen for?" and you say Proteins... But let's not argue on this... Nothing good comes out of it

Actually photosinthesis would not work for us since we consume a lot more energy than a plant, we would need aproximately 100 sq meters of leaves
Also we would have to drink mineral water all the time

Not necessarily, our gas exchange system is much better than the stoma/guard cell system.
Also, our body would have to turn transparent/translucent to extract more energy methinks.

Mineral water sucks, but my wife likes it so I guess that means I like it! HA! It'd still be cool not to have to eat. We briefly touched on plants in my biology class, and my professor wanted to spend more time on it but she said she couldn't because the Dean wouldn't let her. Anyhow, I'm still intrested in them and how they work so do you guys have any good refrences for a person who knows exactly jack about plants?

There are a lot of persons who know a lot about plants... If you want to find out new things, the tutorials on the site might be a good place to start. If they are to easy, then buy a botany book from your local library. Online books might be a solution, but i hate them. If you have any questions, we will be more than happy to answer them. I am proud to say that i like plants and know a few things about them...

Andrew
