Happy New YearModerator: BioTeam Yeah, but it's basically not necessary to know any language but english anymore because almost everyplace has it as a second language.

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy? -Albert Einstein
How many countries have you been to. When I was in China, English was not that common. I tried learning some Chinese, but that is one hard language. I think all I know now is Xia Xia, that mean thank you. Pronounced like shey shay. While I was in Italy some spoke English, but many did not. Same in Spain, Monaco, Greece, and really in Turkey.
I think the more languages you can learn, the better. So far I'm fluent in English and French and I know just enough Spanish to get me in trouble.
Generally speaking, the more people talk about "being saved," the further away they actually are from true salvation.

Remeber that the world is centered around the US. The rest is divided between the friendly cousins (Canada, excluding Quebec, and maybe UK) and the rest is full of hate danger and people that speak "foreign". But it's OK since they are either made to be killed (if you are a US soldier) or to be ignored (if you are a tourist).

Science has proof without any certainty. Creationists have certainty without any proof. (Ashley Montague)
Not every person in the US thinks that way Can. Your somewhat cynique, and it saddens me that you group us as a whole like that. Your preconceptions may have been validated by past experiences, or maybe your media. What ever the case, not all Americans deserve that typecast.
The places that do speak English as a second language are mostly those that were part of the British empire, there are the obvious exeptions of coures (China being the main one.)
Now that the empire has fallen most of those countries are starting to use their own language as the main language and forget English. Without science there is nothing.
