Physiological salt solution- Need help please

Hey, just wondering if someone could guide me in the right direction for these questions.

What is the purpose of sodium ions and pottasium ions in the salt solution. e.g. the ringer salt solution or krebs salt solution.

I am hopin someone could tell me how to find out. I have tried rang and dale pharmacology book but to no effect

Here's a clue - the function of the solutions is primarily osmotic, not ionic.
