I need to know if someone can clear this up for me?

Which one is more primitive and why, gram-negative or gram-positive bacteria?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to organize 9 different bacterias from the most primitive to the most recent. I figured that gram-positive bacterias were the more primitive because they show less complexity than gram-negative. Any suggestions on how else I could classify the following bacteria from most primitive to most recent? Any help would be much appreciated :X

- Staphylococcus aureus

- Lactobacillus acidophilus

- Mycobacterium tuberculosis

- Streptomyces griseus

- Escherichia coli

- Rhizobium meliloti (Sinorhizobium Meliloti)

- Aquaspirillum serpens

- Oscillatoria tenuis

- Algal stromatolite

Gm- vs. Gm+

Postby D_GILL911 » Sun Dec 16, 2007 8:27 pm

To touch on your question; I believe the Gm+ bacteria are the more recent species. Mainly because of the pathogenicity and structural evolution. The Gm+ bacteria have evolved the peptidoglycan layer; which obviously retains the Safarin dye. I would probably say they were the most advanced. :?:

i think D_gill's in the opposite

gram negative bacterias are more pathogenic.

more layers mean more protection, more complex
and may have evolved from gm+ one
