another question concerning cyanobacteria

One of the review questions in my cell bio text ( mitochonidra chapter) asked:

Describe the metabolic changes in oxidative metabolism that must have accompanied the evolution and success of cyanobacteria.


I am having a hard time figuring out the changes that occured. I am caught up thinking about the switch from oxygen being toxic, to the first aerobic cells using oxygen to completly oxidize compounds and derive more energy, but I am not going any deeper than that. If anyone has something to say that would be great.

How about the types of raw materials used such as sugar vs free floating minerals. Also notice how the structure of the mitochondria changes to have more inner surface area i.e. cristae and stuff like that. I think you can also describe the changes that occur as it becomes easier to get energy--energy and nutrition to become bigger perhaps?
