What are the disadvantages and advantages of using centrifugation to extract lipids?

i've never heard of extracting lipids with a centrifuge. usually it's done with a solvent that disolves lipids but not anything hydrophilic. I don't see why you would bother using a centrifuge.

Maybe this is about separating cell organelles (including any lipid-containing ones) with a gradient (ultra)centrifugation? At least that method is fairly straightforward to do if you have the equipment. I'm not sure either if I've heard of any other lipid separation protocols using centrifuges :P
