The DNA sequencing method in a crime lab

I know how to sequence DNA in labs and using gels etc, but anyone knows how they do it in crime labs to get the base pair sequences into computers and compare with others. Like what hardware and software do they use.

I think they just do a southern blot

the classic approach is to do RFLP testing...
There are some labs that use PCR: put the DNA and the suspect's DNA and see if it amplifies. Not so reliable

Not southern blot, because you don't know what exactly to blot for
Also not sequencing... waaaaaaaay to expensive
