Does anyone know if there is any difference between bird songs & bird whistles? Or what is the precise definition of these two words..?

I'd be surprised if there were any biologically accepted definitions for these terms. Does a crow sing or whistle? I have a number of biology/zoology dictionaries, and none venture there.

I there are certain distinctions made in meaning of these terms for use limited to certain articles as people define bird sounds based on complexity, Length, stimulus/inspiration[ e.g. sexual stimulus, predator etc.];..

PS: Sorry for posting it here rather than in Zoology forum, I posted it here because I encountered these terms in context of a topic in evolution.

I think there is no such difference. Birds use different tonalities to communicate among species based on different stimuli (predators, courtship, resources, etc.). What I think is that what we call whistles are simple signals to alert of one's presence in a specific area, or to point out the location of certain resource. Songs are more complex and they can be used to attract a partner or maybe to signal certain events, for example the coming of spring. Anyway that's just my opinion. Thank you!
