I just found this forum after "Google"ing for "green mosquitos".
I just wanted to pipe in, because I'm in BC Canada, and want to see what these new green monsters are about. I was out walking today and got bit by a green mosquito - I'd never seen one before. Then on my way home, I got bit two more times. These ones looked exactly like the pictures in the two threads - a bit bigger than a regular mosquito, and definitely green. All three bites were on my upper left arm, and now my entire upper arm, and over my shoulder a bit has a big red rash (I haven't scratched). This picture was taken about one minute after the third bite. You can see two bites in this picture, and how bit the rash is after one minute. The rash is darker now, although still subdermal - there is no raised areas. The area stings periodically. The third bite is on the back side of my upper arm. I was going to post the picture of the rash, but I need five posts to do it. hopefully you can it here by removing the spaces and someone more senior can repost. img530.imageshack.us/ img530/ 8185/ biteet1. jpg

Green MosquitoWeird. I was just outside a resturant in Eagle Idaho not 30 minutes ago and felt a bite. Instead of swatting it right away, I had to look first because the bite seemed much stronger than ones I had experience before. It was on my left arm a green mosquito and slightly larger than the typical. Swatted it off but not sure if I killed it or not, within seconds I was bit again through my jeans on my shin. This time I just started swatting my jeans before looking...it hurt. I turn to my husband and said lets get in the car, something is biting me and I sware it's a green mosquito. I get to the door of the car and ouch being bit again this time on my right arm, this one really stung. My husband smacked it for me and killed it in the process and sure enough large green mosquito. Have no idea if i encounter just one or multiple. Also my husband and son were with me and neither got a bite. The bites are swelling more every minute with red circle inceasing in size however that happens to me when a normal mosquito gets me.
So I came home to look on web for such a thing as green mosquito, this forum is what I found.
Thanks "Eagleldaho" for your kind and precious information. &
That means I Im the very first to publish about this Green Mosquito...... Still I haven't found any relation of this kind of bug with any disease or anything. I have only one sample and that is also a half year old. I m searching for more samples to study them. If you can collect the sample then please inform me on following mail sachinvch@gmail.com I need samples to study..... Else we wouldn't know what it is.... normal insect or Vector? Hey people i've also seen a green mosquito before but not like the one you guys are talkin about it was actually a fly a light green fly.. saw it at my school i thought it might've had some genetic mutation..BUT THE FLY WAS LIGHT GREEN.. it was weird
I live in South Africa. I've probably seen about 3 green mosquitoes around my house in about 5 years (all males). I found This one sitting on the wall in front of me while I was studying.
As far as I know all the male mosquitoes in our area are all green (or so I hear). I haven't seen any other references to green males though. As I understand it they're rarely seen because 1. they're males and don't drink blood (and thus don't usually enter houses). 2. Male's lives are much shorter than female's lives. 3. They're green and camouflage very well. This theory about green males obviously isn't true about all mosquito species. The females are black. Here are some pictures:
