sex chromosome

Either of a pair of chromosomes, usually designated X or Y, in the germ cells of most animals and some plants, that combine to determine the sex and sex-linked characteristics of an individual; that is if with XX resulting in a female, and xy in a male in most mammals.

There are actually other chromosomal sex determination systems, such as the ZW sex determination system, in which males are homogametic, ZZ, and females heterogametic, or X0, where females have XX and males have X0, where zero is no chromosome at all.

So, how do go about adding important information? Do you need to have extensive verification from extremely well respected websites or what? I wouldn't dream of just doing it without getting the go ahead from people who know better.
