No, it is not in that family with the lacewings. It is in another smaller family.

Mantispidea! Yes! It is a Mantidfly! Actually... it is MY Mantidfly from Kansas : Mantispa interrupta

Family Mantispidea are super neat! I can't believe I found one in Kansas I almost dropped dead, they aren't very common. It was just in my way in from my car to my house. Hanging' out on the concrete. I found out in my Insects of Kansas book that they have hypermetamorphosis and the larvae hang out and flop around until they are picked up by an adult spider and carried and they parasites of the spider's egg sac. Adults are beneficial predators!

Today I saw a Green Lacewing probably genus Chrysopa. Highly beneficial aphid eaters.

My favorites are probably the Owlfly (Family Ascalaphidae, Ululodes quadrimaculata in Kansas) and Antlion (Family Myrmeleontidea). :) If I get a tatoo ever, it will probably be an Owlfly :P
