PLEASE READ-Regarding Job OutlooksIf you're here to post a topic asking about job outlooks or future prospects, you probably will not find much information other than personal anecdotes. For data concerning these, it would probably be more helpful to look for the labor statistics provided by the government of the country.
For example, the U.S. government has the Bureau of Labor Statistics http://www.bls.gov/home.htm which publishes the job outlook handbook for the U.S. http://www.bls.gov/oco. Other resources: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/edx/EU/laborstats.htm Try using google to search for "labor statistics" or "labor outlook"
thanks.

Re: PLEASE READ-Regarding Job OutlooksVery interesting stuff--sad how the job market for PhDs has been hit so hard. I wonder to what extent it is due to too high a volume of PhDs being produced for the job market and academia.
Government statistics are pretty useless. They adddress what was, not necessarily what is or will be and thy are limited in their information as there is no reporting requirement. Th best way to find opportunties is through networking - e.g. through your prof and his professional network.
