If a patient has the genotype hh Lele, this would suggest Bombay phenotype and Lewis a antigen. No secretor genes. Is that right?

Can you have the Bombay Phenotype and the Lewis antigen??

Can't believe this is still on here. The question never came up in the end anyway so all is good. And I passed it woohoo. I still want to know the answer though! I guess I may never know.

Could you tell me what is the Bombay phenotype? I am quite new in here and I am interested in finding out about this..

Its when no H antigen is inherited. The H antigen is the precursor structure needed to make O, A, B and AB type blood. People who have the Bombay phenotype have antibodies against the H antigen in their blood. They can only recieve blood from other Bombay phenotype sufferers. Only about 130 people in the whole world has it! So if they need a blood transfusion it is very difficult. Sometimes they get round it by donating their own blood and storing it for later use. Pretty interesting.

Google and you will find loads on it. Maybe they'll explain it a bit better than me!
