Evolution rate

Postby roniadam on Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:32 pm

Hi all:

How would you estimate the rate of evolution from a comparison of a pair of sequences that share a common ancestral sequence 1 million years ago?

If you know the interval, it's just a matter of fitting the differences in sequence to your time gap.

Usually it's done the other way round - estimating the amount of independent sequence changes, then using the differences to estimate the time gap.
