Theory of Superthermic Contraception

Postby Minuteman » Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:40 pm

(I'm not highly versed in biology and have pieced together the following theory from rudimentary knowledge. Please comment on the validity of all aspects of the theory)

Postulate: Temperature above a certain threshold destroys live sperm. Ipso facto it is possible to avoid pregnancy by superthermic eradication of sperm prior to intercourse.

The testes are located on the outside of the human body as sperm require sub human temperatures to survive. It can therefore be reasoned that placing the testes in a warm environment (e.g. bath at ~300 K) would eradicate the male gametes.

Questions:
-How long would submersion need to be?
-How effective would this method be?

As I say, I need knowledgeable biologists to verify this theory and perhaps take a stab at answering the questions posed.[/list]

Is this theory geared towards creating a new, user-friendly method of contraception (ie, designed with the least amount of interruption of those special, private moments), or is this about destroying sperm just for the heck of it? :o

You dont just destroy one or two sperm with this, u will probably destroy most of your sperms. This is an act of masochism to me

The point is to destroy all the sperm. They will, however, replenish in due time.

I'm still looking for theoretical verification and the practical applications of this are less interesting to me.

Sperm aren't all that susceptible to heat once they've been made - it's sperm production that is mostly affected by excess warmth.

And in a male, a LOT of sperm are stored in the vas deferens, out of reach of this technique.

Is 300k enough? Any hotter though and it would be a fetish more than a contraceptive...
