The process is...

Its the female (Ovum) which decides the sex of the child to be born.
There are sex chromosomes called allosomes which contain genes.
In female its XY and In male its XX.

During Meiosis (or formation of Ovum/Sperm) The chromosome splits into X, Y in female (Ovum) And In male it splits in X, X.

So you have 2 types of ova, One with X chromosome, and other with Y chromosome. And only 1 types sperm, with X chromosome.

If X Ova Combines with X sperm then it will be a boy.
If Y Ova Combines with X sperm then it will be a girl.

Here is the answer to your question.

It is decided during the time of fertilization whether its boy or a girl. I don't think there is way to ensure it is a boy.
Its just like a toss. Either boy or girl is possible, chances are 50-50.
