Career Options?Ever since I was a kid, I knew that my life would revolve around wildlife. As far back as I can remember, my family and I have kept a myriad of both domestic and exotic animals. Even my earliest memory involves our ferret, Spike(RIP
Anyways, my senior year of high school is here and college is rigt around the corner. I am planning on a major in Wildlife Biology. I would really like to be a zookeeper. I figure a major in the field and my current internship at the animal shelter would give me some experience that is needed for a job in Zoology. What do you suggest I do to help me start a career in Zoology? Thanks
I would contact many zoos and see what they look for in a keeper. I have visited the Omaha Zoo in Nebraska (a great zoo) A couple of times behind the scenes with my class and they have lots of volunteer opportunities in summer for students but it is hard to get into. You really need to get some connections going with people involved in zoos. I think many people start out volunteering at zoos then maybe get hired on. I would find out some ways to talk to some keepers, and in person is better than on the phone and the phone is better than the internet. Goodluck!

PS- You're doing great now! I wish I knew what I wanted to do when I was your age.
