fish fins development

Postby hiro on Sat Mar 31, 2007 2:24 am

hi guys
i am not sure the gill arch and fin arch theory
i just know gill arch theroy is the girdle arose from the posterior gill arch; and fin arch theroty is the fin orgainate from ventrolateral fin in the body...

i can't find a bit more details than this.....could anyone help?
thx~~~

and p.s. about the teeth development first appeared in the vertebrate or jawed fish...i can't find info of it...i don;t know how!

Try these

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/ ... 072606.php
(There's a little about anatomical derivation buried in the genetic stuff)

http://pondside.uchicago.edu/ceb/Coates2003Fins.pdf
(This seems to directly address your issue)

There are other references online, but they are very technical and mostly interested in the hox genes rather than the structures involved.
