Ermh, there is no sense of some animal having a prehensale tail and be ground dwelling cause that kind of tail is made for clibming. :)

Is it maybe kus-kus (Phalanger)?

Yes it is nocturnal.

Let me append that they do spend some time in trees, but mostly they are terrestrial.

No it is not endangered (though some populations might be threatened... not sure on that)

It is of comparable size with a housecat, can be somewhat larger than the average housecat in adulthood.
