ok i was just wondering if it is true that the oldest cells of a tree trunk are closest to the center and the youngest near the edge.

i dont think its true but i dont know why.

never seen a tree that is eaten by fungi on the core but still alive? it's because those cells are dead, serving only for support...

The center is called heartwood. And from the center to the periphery lie the rays that is responsible for secretion into the heartwood.
