no, i disagree with the idea of a "gay gene", given that i dont believe homosexuality is entirely based on genetic foundations. I was just adding onto what he said from what i have read on the topic.

I saw a documentary once that said that humans and dolphins are the only animal that have sex for fun.

I have read many books and have taken a class where I learned about the bonobos... one of the closest living speicies to man, if not the closest. They have sex for all kinds of reasons...such as after arguing, after finding food, to initiate new members, for fun, etc. They also have sex with members of the same sex and juvenilles. The females even masturbate one another. So I think it is evident that there is some genetic link to homosexuality.

Well I read a book that was talking about the xq28 "Gay Gene" of the 90s. The author described the gene as recessive X-linked. When present in the female, it helps her reproduction, but when present in the male, it causes him to become gay. I think this relied on the observation that when an identicle twin is gay, the other twin is gay 70% of the time.

I read that too in Genome-Matt Ridley. I also read in another book that the front part of hypothallamus in homosexuals is similar anatomic to female hypothalamus.(you know about hypothalamus and sexual behaviour).

Where our species is overpopulated, the rules of biology do not apply as strongly to us. Our need to reproduce is reduced, as there is enough human reproduction going on already in this world. The parameter of a gender-decisive relationships is being reduced slightly.

Several decades ago it was discovered that over-crowded rats and mice exhibited a deterioration in social behavior. The result is always a population crash. One of the changes was an increase in homosexual activity. Does this apply to us as well? Not quite, yet we do develop "social problems" and have acumulated a long list of them. In all the past societies and civilizations the world has experienced, however, there has been no total such break down and comparative population crash resulting from crowding. The Malthusian triad of war, disease and starvation has somewhat crashed populations, but not behavioral deterioration as such.

In us, it would seem, the increase in social problems is an instinctive reaction to the feeling of being crowded, a feeling that comes when we do not feel intimately connected to our society because it is filled with such diversity of belief that the over all bond between people has disintegrated. We are a hunting-gathering species through millions of years of pre-human evolution. To exist in such huge hunting-gathering group substitutes as "societies", we have to have common beliefs.

I propose that the apparent increase in homosexual activity is due to the breakdown of monogamy. For some 5,000 years civilizations has been based upon the patriarchal-monogamous system. The system encourages the vast number of bisexually inclined individuals in any population to adopt the man-wife marital system. When societies become divided and weaken, the marital system breaks down and the part of the bisexual public that is more homosexual drifts towards the homosexual life style. Thus, the same percentage of the population is inately homosexual, but more of the population exhibits it.

Its more than likely a dominance issue with animals than a sexual desire. If ever there was a 'gay' gene in animals it would have long since selected itself out of the pool.

But there can be carriers [parents] and bisexuals [as Charles says], and as biostud says it can be favoured now as there is more than enough reproduction ... but what would be the mechanism of favouring homosexuality or gay gene in human ???

I don't think it is a mental disorder at all. I do believe that in some instances that certain people may say they are gay to get attention and were not actually born gay. However, I do believe that it may be a genetic issue.

actually, it is natural, all the illnesses are natural too, but it is not NORMAL. If it is not mental disorder, its emotional disorder. I don't think anybody was born gay...i think it is something that happened sometimes in their life, like sexual abuse, or something else...and this is why i think that is has to be treated. as to question HOW, i think that we could find how once we decided to do so.

You're confusing societal and biological definitions. Take murder and incest for instance. You can't preach to lions and tell them not to kill for their food. You can't tell cheetah's that it's not normal to have sex with their blood relatives. And biologically speaking you have to understand that humans are classified as animals...Homo sapiens.
