A State of Consciousness?Alright, first post, so if someone has mentioned this before... please hold off on the severe chastisement. Alright, I was just thinking earlier today (doesn't happen very often) and I was wondering about the perception of human consciousness. I know this can be defined in a dictionary as "awareness" or "capable of thought", but I'm interested to know everyone's thoughts on the subject... what divides us from primitive man, or animals? In your own opinion how would you describe our state of "awareness"?
-DV-
i think what makes up different from early man is we are more 'aware' of what is behind what we see. For example, we don't just see stars and think, their magic from the gods, (well some people do) but we are now more aware of the science behind everything we see. Then that brings me onto religion, sure enough science can't prove that gods do or don't exist, but now that we are more 'aware' of what is going on around us, shouldnt that make most people walk the more logical path of science as opposed to believing in a world of magic, miriceals and souls? (sorry about the spelling)
Also some people believe or percieve that they have 'spoken' to god and such things, how do we know thats not just an altered sence of perception caused by chemical reactions in our brains? I don't see how people all around the world can jump to conclusions and just say its god that did it. Any thoughts?
one big difference between us and other animals is our ability to introspect- to look into the workings of our own minds. animals just act; we understand why we act and from this we can then tell others about it: language; just like this post.
follow the rabbit down the hole...
ok, u really wanna no what i think? well even if u don't, i'm gonna tell u neways! tha reason we're different from other animals is 'cause God created us that way! he designed man to be ruler over the earth. that's y were smarter than other animals(well most humans are smarter than other animals.. i have my doubts abotu some people...)!! ~Dri~
Please don't hate me 'cause i don't like biology! ^_^
This follows the same line of thinking that my thought process follows whenever this topic is introduced... I think that an animal is given all of this data, but no real thing to process all of the information... like some kind of computer. Wheras a human, has the same information, but a logical process to go through it with and distinguish things.
Our job is to warn you. Happy to see that the debate about religion didn't go further..
It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishment the scroll I am the Master of my fate I am the Captain of my soul.
Yes I do agree with the mods on this one. I am a religious person as well, but you can't try to integrate it into the sciences and make everyone happy. lol. I learned this my freshman year of college biology.
