Vitamin CFor a school project i am doing something with Vitamin C. Im basically extracting it from potatoes and then getting it to decolourise DC.PIP . Now, i would like to know:
- are there any inhibitors to this reaction? - If i have a solutino of Vitamin C, and i use it again a week later, will the activity of the vitamin C be the same? I've tried looking it up on the internet, but i cannot find any information on it anywhere. So, any help would be much appriciated. Bauke
vitamin C gets oxidised when it comes into contact with air, so the concentration vitamin C will change in time.
you'll probably know that in bananas there is a chemical that breaks down vitamin C. You can use orange juice and banan juice to see the effect on the decolourisation of DCPIP.
no, the chemical which breaks down the vitamin is found in bananas. The vitamin itself is found in oranges...

What? So bananas kill vitamin C off ?
Does that mean it is are sort of unhealthy to eat bananas with oranges ?
Well that depends on the medium in which that chemical acts. I have never heard of it before either.
