What Gets old.

Postby Vibrio » Mon Dec 18, 2006 7:03 am

I have only been on this site for a few days and some things are already getting old. It is mainly talking about other people's posts. Not only the homework thing, but also things like talking about people posting in wrong places and things like that. I came here to talk biology, not about what people are doing wrong on the board.

Honestly, If I were you, I would give it a rest. I know it gets annoying to have to move and delete topics but why warn people about it? Couldn't you just pm them asking them nicely to stop?

You probably don't like this topic either, but I would really rather have the load taken off who's posting what, the homework thing etc.

Depending on my mood, sometimes topics just disappear

Like I said, it is understandable to get annoyed with topics. But if you are going to say things like this when you get annoyed, then you're just sounding like a jerk.

I know that everyone has different opinions, views and ways of doing things. A lot of what I think are unnecessary rules here, are necessary in your opinion. I may roll my eyes at some of them, thinking "God! these rules are stupid!" But doesn't everybody do that to some extent for some rule somewhere? I respect others' views and opinions. As long as rules are made for the good of the members, they are ok rules. But if you enforce them in a way that is just plain rude, then its not ok! Like the homework thing...I really don't agree at all with the "looking in a textbook first" thing...but I wouldn't complain if you were really nice about it!

In case you didn't know, I am dejavu. I made those posts to get back at you for the rudeness in hopes that you'd learn a lesson. If you want to you can ban my vibrio account too. I go by this rule: I will only disrespect you if you disrespect me first. By disrespecting new members with questions, you are also disrespecting me...because I feel their pain and anger. If a member purposely tries to annoy you with breaking the rules, that's different. Then they are indirectly spamming. I doubt that all these new members with questions are making any attempt to disrespect anyone. I am still very angry about some of the rude posts, but I will keep it calm this time. But I will end with this statement...and please keep this in mind: If you are going to moderate a site, have patience! It is a virtue. You are setting an example. You are there to make the forums a better place. It is your job to be patient when answering questions-its like any business or company! Of corse, everyone slips due to bad day, bad mood etc...but that it what apologizing is all about :D

Dejavu did more than just ask, he was also rude and disrespectful(that's in the rules btw). There's no need to throw out words like bastard or calling us by other names. A bad day is a reason but not an excuse for rudeness. You'll find in life that there are people less understanding and consequences much harsher than just being banned.
Sorry, you won't win my respect by being a vigilante or by going with the code of eye for an eye.

And read the rest of the thread that dejavu posted on. Moderators aren't unreasonable overlords who delight in inflicting punishment. We're reasonable, but we're people too.

I wasn't defending dejavu....which do I need to say again is me lol.

Hey, I know that was harsh. That most certainly is a reason to ban somebody...I knew dejavu would be banned. I had no doubt in my mind! I would ban someone like that too. In other words, I would have banned myself...since dejavu was MY OTHER ACCOUNT! Sorry, I've just said that it was my other account like 3 times and yet no one gets it lol.

I wasn't doing dejavu's posts purly for revenge...it was more to make an impression on those who are rude. Sometimes being nice does not make an impression and you have to be stern. But like I said... I have calmed down now and since I have shown you how I feel about the way new member questioners are many times treated, I will apologize for those harsh words. Its kinda hard to explain, its not really eye for an eye, its "I'm gonna show them what they've done!" kinda thing. Its normal to get angry at someone if you feel hurt by them...almost everyone is this way. Even God gets angry...not often, but he does. (if you are religious, you can relate, if not disregard that comment)

I know and realize that I (dejavu) should have been more nice about it. But sometimes it just gets irritating. I didn't mean anything harmful or hateful in that last post(by vibrio)...I just want to make my statement. Please don't be so rude to new members with questions.

I hope that's better. But, see...you say its wrong to go by eye for an eye, but yet I (including dejavu) offended you and you say you won't give me respect. Isn't that sorta the same thing I said? I know I offended you, but I did it so that you would see. I mean, I tried to nicely put it at the beginning, when I made this thread. I wasn't offensive then.

And read the rest of the thread that dejavu posted on. Moderators aren't unreasonable overlords who delight in inflicting punishment. We're reasonable, but we're people too.

I don't want this argument to carry on and on...but please read what I said in my last post.
Like I said, it is understandable to get annoyed with topics

I respect others' views and opinions.

That post was not intended to be nasty. dejavu was very rude, I will say that. But saying "depending on my mood some topics just disappear" is also rude. I think we can say that both of us can get irritated and edgy and say rude things. We both have our reasons...but, like you said, they are not excuses! I take my responsibility for dejavu's rudeness and apologize. I'm not one of those right all the time kinda people. I admit I went kinda far with that. I just hope you can say the same about yourself and we can forgive and forget. We are both people who make mistakes, so we adress those mistakes and work on them to be better people.

thanks

The post saying that some posts dissapear was a joke. We ONLY delete posts that break the rules(and even then, sometimes we just lock the thread). In the history of this forum only 2 posts have been deleted without breaking the rules(by me, when i first became a mod, by clicking the wrong button  )
