The benefits of double fertilization? Do you remember how female gametophyte of gymnosperm arises? After meiosis one of cells starts dividing producing megagametophyte that is a food storage for potencial embryo. Formation of macrogametophyte as a food storage tissue before fertilization is a risk of energy lose, because fertilization may fail to occur.
In angiosperms food storage tissue arises from triploid endosperm nucleus after fertilization, so the plant is "sure" that this waste of energy is profitable.

apart from egg and the polar nuclei there are 3 more nuclei. what happens to themafter syngamy?

Those nuclei are called antipodals and they abort during development of macrogametophyte or after it. They don't play any role anyway.

I don't know why I am typing that: seed plant reproduction
