tissue-specific enzymes?

Postby Ammie » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:39 am

Does anyone have any idea where I can look if I want to know all proteins that are expressed in a specific tissue?

Thanks

I want to know which proteins are pancreas-specific.

No, I don't need to know the sequense, a name is enough.

well, i guess googling "pancreas proteins" and spending a lot of time going through the results will solve your problem

But there must be an easier way!!

Now i have searched for pancreas and homosapiens on the ncbi protein search. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) and also on pubmed and google with different searching words.

Again: there must be an easier way??

I have found 27 pancreas specific- enzymes :D
But there are probably more that I havn't found...

hmm. pancreas. lemme see. it;s there the islet of langerhans are.
Hormones produced in the Islets of Langerhans are secreted directly into the blood flow by (at least) four different types of cells:

* Insulin-producing Beta cells (65-80% of the islet cells)
* Glucagon-releasing alpha cells (15-20%)
* Somatostatin-producing delta cells (3-10%)
* Pancreatic polypeptide-containing PP cells (1%)

Islets can influence each other through paracrine and autocrine communication, and beta-cells are coupled electrically to beta-cells (but not to other cell-types).

The paracrine feedback system of the islets of Langerhans has the following structure:

* Insulin: Activates beta cells and inhibits alpha cells.
* Glucagon: Activates beta cells and delta cells.
* Somatostatin: Inhibits alpha cells and beta cells.
