Metabolism of Galactose

Galactose is phosphorylated by galactokinase to produce Galactose-P. Gal-P is converted to Gal-UDP by the addition of a uridine diphosphate. Gal-UDP is converted by UDPglucose 4-epimerase to UDP-Glucose. UDP-Glucose is converted by UDP glucose--hexose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase to Glucose-1-P. Glu-1-P is converted by phosphoglucomutase to Glucose-6-P which is the starting point of glycolysis. Heh, I'm sure next time you ask a question you'll be hoping I'm not the one to answer :wink:
