How do lichens represent the level of air pollution?

hello everybody,

although i'm a novice here, i expect some help from you. i have to write an essay (~4000 words in lenght) about how diversity and abundance of lichens represents the level of air pollution in some certain areas. experiments were carried out in two different territories, one very close to an important road and the other quite apart from any traffic. the thing is, i need some external sources of information for my essay, and this is quite a problem. results are gathered and are waiting to be analysed, so if someone could advise me any site or book, it would be perfect and i would really appreciate it

by the way, does anybody know how are the types of lichens called in english? i mean those three types: one is lichens that are quite bushy and usually grow in clean areas, the second is lichens that have structures similar to some sort of leaves and the third one is lichens that neither have leaves, nor are similar to a bush. does somebody know what i am talking about?

As far as I know, the EE is bull, it only helps if you're missing your IB test points(SL). I'd find out what my advisor wants rather than what IB wants since the advisor will give you a school grade(at least at my school it was).
