Why do you have to destarch a leaf before doing experiments?

Etiolate it for a few days - then cells will use up all stored starch and you will be able tyo cinduct the experiment. I know it might sound too simple, but I read about that in some book so it's not my own idea.

To see that all the starch present in the leaf is utilised completely.By this we can identify,how much photosynthesis took place,when you keep the explant in the sunlight.
