How is the antibodies produced??

Postby Ammie » Wed Aug 16, 2006 6:55 am

I have read that monoclonal antibodies now is produced without using animals, is that true?

What about polyclonal antibodies?

Is some companies better to buy from if you want to abuse or harm animals as little as possible?

There are in vitro produced antibodies, but still some monoclonal antibodies are produced in mice, an this is painful.

Please don't think that we harm/abuse animals if we use them for producing antibodies or another experiments. Those antibodies and experiments are aimed to survive animals/humans life. If we don't do that, we will have a lot of animals and humans dead because of uncured diseases. Animals we use here are special ones, which we breed and keep in the lab. They are conditioned to lab environment olny, they can't survive in the wild life. And, don't worry, we have a stricted rule on using and handling those animals. Thank you for understanding.

Human existence involves abuse of animals, if you do not see that you can live in future too more and more illusions

But if there are two working methods one in-vitro and one that includes mice - why not chose the one that does not involve abuse of animals?

It is a really difficult dilemma for me. I don't think we have the right to use animals in research, but at the same time I know that it is necessary to have a high quality of reserach.

But if there are two equal good alternatives, then it is better to chose the one that do not includes animals I think.

Yes I do think we harm/abuse animals in research and for making chemicals. But it is necessary and I think it is good that we fell bad about it. What do you call it?

Let me tell you this. Each animal has a specific immune system. We cannot make all-in-one in vitro antibody culture. Say we want to cure dog from a disease. We must make an antibody for the dog, which involve the living dog to trigger the antibody production naturally. Then we can take its lymphocytes to culture in vitro.

We DO have rights to use animal for our experiments. And we DO have rules for that, when we are against it, e.g. doing malpractice, we will get a penalty.

Actually we 'abuse' plants but we never realize. Unfortunately none sounds aloud to this case. Always animal and animal :(

We abuse plats?
I do not think plants feel pain or sense the world in the same way that vertebrate animals do.

See? You're not fair on judging living things! :)
Don't JUST think of "feeling"! Plants is also living things. By cutting them, stepping over them, etc is actually kind of abusing them. Unfortunately plants can't scream ;)

I don't like Bonsai. People force the plant to be unique but actually it is NOT what they (plants) want. They want to live normally. Just same to cutting grass with landmover. Actually we abuse the grass but we never know.

Now think about styling dog's fur. Cut here and there, tie here and there, it is ALSO abusing them. Also wearing our pets clothes and hat.. that's STUPID! They don't need that. It is US, people, who likes that.

But we sometimes forget this things because they are "fun", "cute", etc. We focus animal abusing JUST in laboratory experiment. Sad but true.

:(

Makeup

Antibodies are special proteins the body uses to combat foreign elements such as viruses and infections. They consist of two large protein complexes and two smaller complexes. They also contain a special portion of their protein make-up dedicated to the genetic memory of bacteria and diseases encountered by the body.
Plasma Cells

Antibodies are made by special white blood cells called plasma cells. White blood cells are the cells within the body responsible for fighting bacteria and disease. The plasma cells begin their life cycle in bone marrow and end in the spleen.
Memory
Antibodies contain genetic memory for fighting disease. Antibodies each have a section devoted to carrying a portion of memory cells. The cells hold the appropriate response by the body when encountering bacteria. For example, after one encounters pneumonia and the body fights it off, the antibodies add a memory cell to remember the makeup of pneumonia and how best to fight it.
