Biotechnology for my frendzI know biotechnology and am quite sure about how do we define that, but still some frendz define it in a different way , please help
My definition: applying the knowledge of biological phenomena [ eg. central dogma , fermentation etc.] for our benefit. Offcource this requires the application of some non-biological sciences [ eg. engineering] But the main i dea of biotech is this. But , my frendz say that designing a fermentor tank according to the requirements is also biotech. I think this is required for practical use of biotech but this is not biotech. Applied biotech deals with where to apply biotech and how to apply it, so this may be the part of appl. biotech. M I right ? ? ? hrushikesh
Re: Biotechnology for my frendzIn my opinion I would say your definition is closer to what I would define it as. However, I would not not include the word "engineering" phrase. Engineering is not always the case, for example knocking our expression of genes using siRNA would be a biotechnology process in my opinion but we are not engineering or modifying the genome in anyway.
My simple definiton woiuld be:- "Biotechnology is a science that uses living orgnisms to produce reagents for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes."
