Primary producers? These are plants and fungi. They produce food(glucose etc) using energy from sun by photosynthesis.

Fungi make photosynthesis? I don't think so.

Many botanists say green things (like algea) are plants too.
NOTE: I didn't say Plantae, I said plants. :)

two types to be a primary producers

1. photosynthetic- green plant, algae, and pigmented sulfur bacteria

2. chemosynthetic- nitrifying bacteria, nonpigmentd sulfur bacteria

Actually there are some fungi that are photosynthetic- lichens- but they do it via a symbiotic relationship with an alga of some sort.

However the only organisms I know of which are photosynthetic in their own right are plants, algae and cyanobacteria.

wait. she, poison, was correct. lichens is the word which refers to the symbiotic between the algae and the fungi. after all organism which do photosyntesis is the algae, not the fungi.

Lichens are not "fungi". Yes, they are classified according to the fungi but that does not show they are one. They are a form of symbiotic relationship. And the one that makes photosynthesis is the algea.

Plantae is a kingdom. The term "plant" includes Plantae plus algea. That's what many botanists say, well, looks logical to me.
