Significant progress has been made in the area of nonviral gene delivery to date. Yet, synthetic vectors remain less efficient by orders of magnitude than their viral counterparts. Research continues toward unraveling and overcoming various barriers to the efficient delivery of DNA, whether in plasmid form encoding a gene or as an oligonucleotide for the selective inhibition of target gene expression. Novel components for overcoming these hurdles are continually being incorporated into the design of synthetic vectors, leading to increasingly more virus-like particles. Despite these advances, general principles defining the design of synthetic vectors are yet to be developed fully. A more quantitative analysis of the cellular uptake and intracellular processing of these vectors is required for the rational manipulation of vector design. Mathematical frameworks with a more conceptual basis will help obtain an integrated perspective on these complex systems. In this review, we critically examine the progress made toward the improved design of synthetic vectors by the strategic exploitation of intracellular mechanisms and explore newer possibilities to overcome obstacles in the practical realization of this field

That's just talking about new mechanisms for performing genetic engineering. It's just an improved way of doing something they can already do. It's fascinating stuff, gene manipulation. Did you see the "DNA Origami" news a while back:

I must be missing something here - this is just about moquitos becoming resistant to insecticide. That happens all the time - super-bugs, etc. What's the connection here?

It's a very different type of vector here. Mosquitos are a vector for parasites. Viruses are vectors for DNA. It's a totally different scale, several orders of magnitude away. (forgive me if you know this, I'm just trying to make the connection)

Recombinant adenoviruses (Ad) have become the vector system of choice for a variety of gene therapy applications. However, the utility of Ad vectors is limited due to the low efficiency of Ad-mediated gene transfer to cells expressing marginal levels of the coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR). In order to achieve CAR-independent gene transfer by Ad vectors in clinically important contexts, we proposed modification of viral tropism via genetic alterations to the viral fiber protein. We have shown that incorporation of an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-containing peptide in the HI loop of the fiber knob domain results in the ability of the virus to utilize an alternative receptor during the cell entry process. We have also demonstrated that due to its expanded tissue tropism, this novel vector is capable of efficient transduction of primary tumor cells. An increase in gene transfer to ovarian cancer cells of 2 to 3 orders of magnitude was demonstrated by the vector, suggesting that recombinant Ad containing fibers with an incorporated RGD peptide may be of great utility for treatment of neoplasms characterized by deficiency of the primary Ad type 5 receptor.

And that just says that lightning strikes increase horizontal gene transfer, and hence have historically accellerated the continued evolution of bacteria. (important because some scientists think the observed rate of genetic evolution is not enough to fit the current complexity into the time available - ties into the intelligent design discussion).

Forgive me London, but are you just plugging in words to Google, and seeing what comes up? The papers you are giving me are quite advanced and highly specific, and you might do better in focussing your research efforts on a more general understanding of the topics you are interested. This stuff seems too esoteric to be helpful if you don't understand the basic (or not-so-basic) science behind it.

That's just another virus-level DNA delivery method. This time for gene therapy. They improved the delivery of DNA with an adenovirus (a common virus) by modifying it to disguise the entry of the virus into the cell.

"Motility" here is in transmission into cells - not actual movement.

The "Fiber" mentioned here is actually protein molecules, which are essentially molecular level machines for manipulating DNA.

This is discussing things on a molecular level, millions of times smaller than the fibers people report.

When you finish your taxes - how do you think this relates to Morgellons?

can they affect our DNA, our fibers in our muscles and nerves?

How big is a muscle fiber in comparison to this smaller than a hair fiber we have? or nerve fibers, or capillaries?

it is the synthetic chennille I can't wear.

Of course, wool itches me too.

but those allergies are entirely, seperate from this. trust me on this.
I know my body, and I know the dermititis I get from. clothing, detergents etc..
is much different than this. actualy I am having problems now because I used non-hypoallergeti laundry detergent and did not rinse twice, and now I am having skin erruptions from that. This itches too.

Couple differences between this and the other "lesions"

this does not:
*burrow around and leave white scars,
and track marks
*respond to vinegar (still itches)
*cause scabs to form
l*eave fibers behind
*cause the same horrible type itch

One connection, is that I am highly allergic and so
have an extraordinary reaction to the vector
and organism (ie:bacteria etc) it transmits.

I have an experiment to try on the med profession;

Take a video of a mosquito or other insect as it bites you
(in more than one place, let it do a good job, so there is more than one "lesion", "make sure not to scatch"
make sure you have a bunch of witnesses too,
go to the doctor
and explain "something" is biting you all over?

There are strange things happening to coyotes/dogs,
mostly in Texas (I think it's the origen)

but cases are cropping up in other places. I have been
observing this for a long time.
Something is going on with the enviroment orand causing
diseases, old and new to crop up. That is why London posts
all the info. I am with her on this. SOMTHING is going on.
