oxygen productionciao everybody!
as many biologists have confirmed there is no such organism other than a green one (photosynthesis) that produces oxygen. however I found at http://www.microbe.org/news/perchlorate_microbe.asp that some bacteria (dechloro*) actually are able to produce oxygen and even release it if the conditions are adequat. my question 1: could it be possible to have them produce oxygen on the moon, for example? my question number 2: how would you produce oxygen in absence of light (and with little energy available that does not allow you to use electrolysis)?
Question 1: Maybe. As long as there is something they can digest to obtain oxygen. I find it doubtful that it's possible...but then again, it's impossible to prove a "no" answer in science.
Question 2: You need some form of energy to live. Phototrophs (plants) and Chemotrophs (archabacteria) use light and chemicals, respectively, to obtain their energy. It is not possible to survive in an enviornment with no energy.
Ugh! Ok...before you post on my last post...yes, I know. There are other phototrophs besides plants..........
Damn... And I was just going to say that
