i know that ATP is a modified nucleotide that plays an important role in energy metabolism, but are there any more that are crucial?

Yes. GTP for instance.

ATP = Adenosine Triphosphate. Adenine (purine base) can turn into adenonsine (a nucleoside) which then can turn into ATP (a nucleotide)

ATP, CTP, GTP etc

also nucleotides in tRNA-molecules for instance are modified (recall that pseudo-uridine is also 1 of many modified nucleic acids)
