Genetic Diversity in CheetahsJust like Inuyasha I have a biology report also. If anyone has any links for locations of where I can find info on the lack of genetic diversity in cheetahs due to their captive breeding I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.[/quote]
I don't know if you have already found this or not:
http://www.felidtag.org http://darwin.bio.uci.edu/~sustain/bio6 ... 5lec15.htm http://lynx.uio.no/jon/lynx/cheetahg.htm http://www.emagazine.com/view/?195 Hope this helps! Last edited by Admin on Sat Dec 25, 2004 5:24 am, edited 2 times in total.
This is a question along the same vein: Can anyone tell me how this lack of genetic diversity results in high infant mortality and low sperm count in the males?

Well, I just found some sites, I hope that they would help out =)

Yeah, didn't really read that last post.

By the way, how long's your essay or report supposed to be, and how specific? Are you just doing cheetahs or genetic diversity in endangered species in general? I could send you a lot more sites and more information if I know exactly what it is that you're reporting on. [/b]
I am doing just cheetahs for this paper and I'm trying to tie this into natural selection and survival of the fittest.

Survival of the fittest and natural selection? Try checking out Origin of Species by Charles Darwin from a library. It'll help you a lot. Here are a few more books that'll assist you with your report:
- The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection - Ronald Aylmer Fisher and J H Bennett - Charles Darwin's Natural Selection : Being the Second Part of his Big Species Book Written from 1856 to 1858 - Charles Darwin and R C Stauffer (editor) - Tears of the Cheetah: And Other Tales from the Genetic Frontier - Stephen J O'Brien There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Re: Ravi
Being in a different genus has no effect on the productivity of any species. Just remember that taxidermy is just labels us humans place on different species. In the natural world, taxidermy's ONLY function is to allow humans to separate areas of study in organisms.
From what I have heard, in humans a closeness of genetic diveristy can create mental disabilities, is there anyway to find how this effects not only cheetahs but other animals.
