zoology as a jobIs zoology a good job? Do you get well payed and what exacly do you do?
For a job I would like to work with animals, and maybe travel to areas full of fauna.
Zoology isn't exactly a job so much as a field. It's like saying that medecine is a job, rather than a category of jobs, such as physician, radiologist, nurse, etc.
So depending on what kind of job you'd like, you can be payed poorly or well, be able to travel or never travel at all. If you could give some more specifics of what you'd like from your job in zoology, maybe we could help you out more.
What do you consider to be "paid well"? You could live a very good life as a professor in a research institute teaching some classes and conducting research experiments, but you wouldnt be living in a mansion buying whatever your hearts content. In the end though, Zoology is something you should go into because thats where your heart is, not because you want to make a ton of money. Keep in mind I am only a college student saying this, and I have not experienced life in the real zoological world just yet.
well forget the well payed part. It was just a wondering question.
anyways, I would like to study animals, more like research. research in their behaviour for example, but then there is not much to research i believe. I would prefer to do this research outside in the dirt and not inside with test tubes..
There is a ton of research you could do like that! Do you remember Jane Goodall (not sure of the spelling...). She built a hut in the jungle and lived with a group of gorillas in the wild, and kept journals of her findings. She studied their group dynamics, their interactions, and actually was accepted to some degree in their ocmmunity. You could certainly find some communal animal and live like that. And that's just one example, any animal you like could be observed for behavior.
Trust me, behavioral research is a field that will always have more work that can be done.
Hi
i also agree with flint i am a collage student 2!!! awseome flint!! but its not about muney its about finding new things , saving lives of animals thats what i blieve in. Muney is jiz a bouns to me !!! i would rather be poor than to see a animal harmed in anyway !! My goal in life is to help animals !!! i want to go to places like afica and india to save the most beautiful animals i have ever seen the Tiger!!! I want to stop them from being poached i want to study there everydae move for myself i read alot of books on tigers but nothing is better than Experancing it up close to a tiger !! i have had my heart set on this dream for 6 and a bit years and im going to do it because i have my heart set on it and thats what im doing for my part of the world !!
Same with me - my professors are always showing slideshows of their research in places like New Zealand, Africa, Scandinavia, and South America and it makes me want to graduate and get into research so much more. I can't wait.
I know it has nothing to do with money. My dream is to work with animals or do anything with biology, no matter if I get poor or rich. But money is an issue anyways. I would love to be an arquiologist (sp) though people have told me that it's hard to make a living with it because you only get payed if you actualy got something. Now I don't know if that is true or not, but that's what I heard. Thought you could be an arquiologist if you were also a proffessor (eg Indiana Jones hahaha), but don't want to be a proffessor. I don't want to be payed the same thing as a waitress, cause it's hard to make the living with that. But anyways, the money question was just out of curiosity. I mean doing what I like is really cool and to get payed well would be make it cooler. Just like playing basketball; you do what you love and you even get payed for that - payed for having fun ^_^ But ye, I agree with flint as well, and you too. Do you guys want to make up a team to save the extinct animals?? :p I will be going to college in a year probably =D
I'm going to uni in scandinavia ^_^ and make a moose farm!
Jane Goodall worked with Chimpanzees! There is another lady who worked with Gorillas to try to save them from poachers and she was killed by poachers, her name was Dian Fossey. Jane Goodall is pretty old now but she still goes I think every year to visit her chimps. I read a lot about her as a kid. From what I've researched online about zoology you almost have to be a professor to do research, and it would be more helpful to be a professor because a lot of the big colleges and universities are the ones doing research and have the mooo-lah to do them. You could also work for the government but that would probably be different types of research like Wildlife Conservation but starting out you make about 20,000 a year but if you are an administrator you can make up to 100,000 a year in the US. Money is an issue, I want to go into this line of work but I also want to have a family. I am getting married to an artist so both of our jobs will be unstable. Hopefully we can get lucky and get good jobs
