The G phaseBudding yeast cell preferentially repair double stranded breaks by homologous recombination. Yeast can exist ina diploid or haploid state. Cells in the haploid state are especially sensitive to agents that cause double stranded breaks in DNA. If the break occurs in the G1 phase of the cell cycle, most of the yeast cells die, however, if the breaks occur in the G2 phase of the cell cycle, a much higher fraction of the cells survive. Why is this?
