photosynthesis

Postby isabell on Thu Feb 16, 2006 1:41 am

Photosynthesis shows higher activity for violet/blue and orange/red, and a lower absorption for green/yellow.if we could invent a different photosynthetic pigment that absorbed absolutely all visible wavelenghts of light, the leaves would appear which colour?

a) white
b) black
c) red
d) still green since it is photosynthetic
e) virtually all colours would be seen in the leaf

???
i think it can be d or e but im not sure about it.

When we see colors we see the light that is being reflected. Plants and their chlorophyll are green because they reflect green. I think that is also why using green filter paper does not help a plant grow like some people may think. If the pigment absorbs all wavelengths of light than I think the leaves would appear to be black. But that's just me.
