fraction of evolution on earth.

Postby 2810712 » Sat Mar 26, 2005 4:40 am

Our mother earth is 4.5 million yrs young , today . So, many of myfriends and me tend to disagree to the notion of evolution of life on earth itself. Is the diversity and complexeity possible within this much time? ? ? Its easier for me to believe on this theory , if it says that life didn't originate on earth ; it arrived here in an intermediate state [ intyermediate complexeity, and diversity ] , how many of us have similar notions ? ? ?

thanks,

Go and look at my post about "the first cell" in the Protein and Proteomics board...

I think so. That's one thing the Creationists and the Evolutionists actually agree on. Both theories say that life began on Terra :)

 sorry , its billion. thanks for correcting.

Why do they believe that , are there any believable clues in in considerable number ? ? ?
Also, Some DISCOVERIAN scientists don't believe that , there was a big group of such scientists.

4.5 Billion years is a lot of time, why do you have problems thinking that life could have appeared on earth from nothing in this time frame?

As for life appearing in space, and then seeding earth, the so called panspermia theory, I do not really see how it would help understanding how life was created. And I really do not think that it could have seeded more than the few basic bricks of life. First because deep space is incredibly hostile to life (radiations, void, cold are pretty tough, no?) and second because the unicity of the earth biology suggest a unique beginning for life, hence any diversity in the seeding is even less likely in my opinion.

It is much simpler to imagine life appearing on our planet than to have to determine the incredibly complex line of event that could have led life to appear somewhere else and then safely transferred across the light years to seed other planets. Where it would find the same kind of chemicals to multiply...

And what is a discoverian scientist?

A discoverian scientist is one who tells something on discovery channel . Don't you watch discovery ??? it's good.
We cannot tell how much time is required to origin and evolution of life till today, but i think scientists can tell some minimun time required with large approximation.
I get problems imagining that life originated on earth because , 4.5 billion yrs is age of earth and not the time origin and evolution of life , i think earth would also have taken some time to become able to sustain life and thus , after seeing the degree of complexeity and variations i get problems to believe that life originated on earth.
Also, even if there is sufficient time to originate and evolve we cannot say that life has definitely originated on earth. After all in evolution we cannot be 100% sure in most cases.
I think life can originate on planet / space object other than earth , and there can be avaibility of same chemicals and environment on earth, it can happen .
