Pear Dragon Fruit a.k.a. Hylocereus undatus is very popular nowadays. I have just eaten it up few minutes ago, because this fruit is easily found during Chinese New Year like at this moment.

Here, I need you help to collect information about this fruit, the biological an pharmacological aspects, possibly I will do some research on it. You can contribute on that research then ;)

Thank you.

P.S. Don't ask me to google, I already did that ;) I just want to make this thread as "A (almost) Complete Sources of Pear Dragon Fruit". Next time you need an info about this fruit, you just need a click an you'll get it all here ;)

Yes, I have eaten this fruit before in Singapore, where I live. I have so far seen two types. One where the inside "flesh" is white and another whose inside "flesh" is dark pink. I think its rather weird to have fruits with pink "flesh" - is it genetically engineered or natural? I wonder...

Now I am eating it (again) The white flesh with black tiny seeds ;)

As far as I know there are three species:
1. Hylocereus polyrhizus - red skin, dark red flesh

2. Hylocereus megalanthus - yellow skin, white flesh

3. Hylocereus undatus - red skin, white flesh

Where do you get this stuff? Here you will never find such fruits...

I got it from supermarket

Nah, seriously, it is tropical fruit so far I know. However, it can grow in dry areas IMO because this is a family of Cactaceae.
Nowadays there is a cultivation centre for this fruit in my country.

One of the effect is this fruit can combat anaemia. I really need it! :)

Really? I read that China, Thai and Vietnam people eat it just raw when it is ripe and use to cook the flower, bud, and young fruit as vegetable :?

Ok I will browse to get the article I once read. Darn, why didn't I save at that time? Now it is hard to trace it :(

Btw, I got another info of use of dragon fruit: unopened flowerbuds are cooked and eaten as vegetables.
