antibiotics on bacterial growthIm doing some corsework on antibiotics and how they effect bacterial growth. looking at wheather a braod spectrum antibiotics are more effective than narrow spectrum antibiotics. help needed plz Andy

Difference between broad- and narrow spectrum antibiotics are the number of type bacteria they are effective on. ISo defining what you mean by "effective" would be interesting...
Right Canalon. Andy, I suggest that you go and look up the difference between broad spectrum antibiotics and narrow spectrum antibiotics. Then come back with some more specific questions...

Also... it would be wise to look at Beta Lactamases and remember its not briad or narrow spectram.... its about the suitability of targeting various points within the bacteria e.g. cell walll formation, usually an antibiotic which inhibits the alanine cross-linkage during replication is desirable.... try google scholar.... for this... so much info out there for this
