That CH3OH can't replace water and that my book knows more chemistry than you
"As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
Oh, one more thing....If the questioner still can't take the fact that CH3OH can't replace water, think about this:
Try to find some references about why frozen water can float on the liquid water??? and what are the advantages from that phenomenon?? after that, compare it with methanol, can it do that?? Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
Hey!
Just come out of Earth conditions. Just think that if you are on such planet that has your Body temp is -2*C normal. temp -5*C. and your body is composed of builing blocks wich are surely non-csrbonics. Then will it possible???????? We can together think over creating such a life in lab. Just put logical Basis. Sitting at Pc. Senior Education Officer, BNHS, India. www.bnhs.org
Bitter Truth! Who says reason for world war IV will be Petrol? Reason lies in two words "Me and Mine".
Ah, still can't accept it... sorry my friend, because I have 2 reasons for this.. first, just think again, what creature we are?? Endotermic aren't we?? so, how can we reach -2 ºC then? second, sorry fella, until now they haven't discovered any other substances which is unique (can form a long chain of macromolecule) like Carbon.. So, still can't accept it?? @Dr.Stein ck..ck..ck..headache because second semester has opened isn't it?? Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
The similar thing was discussed here in topic 'Chemical evolution'-
about4192.html&highlight= catenation number of Sulphur is 6, silicon 4. So we amy have looooog chains of them too. we need atleast 2 as catenation no. for forming long chains. 3rd and next valencies will serve as characteristic-determinors due to groups attached to them. hrushikesh
hey all of you..a lil bit correction..
after take a look and searching in my organic chemie book, I found that: - Methanol boiling point is 65 ºC - Methanol can form hydrogen bond but the bonds are not as "rich" as water has. - Methanol form a perfect solution with water. (mixed perfectly).. @sachin@biog Well, you're smart in using methanol as a medium.. Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
Methane based life theories are also good
