Narrow Sense HeritabilityDoes anyone know how to calculate the narrow sense heretability given data values from the parent to offspring. Example, in my Evolutionary biology class the professor posed a question that a farmer wanted to grow larger pumpkins, therefore he only allowed the pumpkins weighing >= 9 kg to reproduce. The weights of the parental generation allowed to reproduce were: 9,9,9,9,9,12,15 kg with a mean of 10.28 kg. The offspring's weights were as follows: 10,9,8,8,9,10,10,7,12,10 kg with a mean of 9.3 kg. This is all the data that my professor provided, I have equations for narrow sense but I do not have one that allows for simple plugging into eqns, for instance I do not know what level of the variation for parents to offspring is due to genetic verses environmental causes. I would appreciate any insight into this problem.
