the color of protein

I recently purified a protein. It is in purple (or pink) color. What does the color mean? Does this color tell me what kind of protein it is? Thanks

What other information were you given? Is this for a class?

There are a few kinds of proteins, out of which only one kind are colored: they are named cromoproteins(Hemoglobine is an example)

Color in organic molecules (like proteins) generally means there is a conjugated pi-network in the molecule.

The color of this protein could indeed be a useful bit of evidence about what protein it is; however I don't know what your protein is. Unless you have some sort of standard the color won't help you determine what it is probably.
