the color of proteinI recently purified a protein. It is in purple (or pink) color. What does the color mean? Does this color tell me what kind of protein it is? Thanks
There are a few kinds of proteins, out of which only one kind are colored: they are named cromoproteins(Hemoglobine is an example)

Mes did not know that...what color is Hemoglobin?
P.S. Aha! Yet one more spelling to add to my "Kyle's List of How to Spell Hemoglobin" Hemoglobin Hemoglobine Haemoglobin Any others you can think of?
Color in organic molecules (like proteins) generally means there is a conjugated pi-network in the molecule.
The color of this protein could indeed be a useful bit of evidence about what protein it is; however I don't know what your protein is. Unless you have some sort of standard the color won't help you determine what it is probably. Rob the Chemicool Mod
