Question on mutationHi everyone, this is my first post here. I understand that exposure to x-rays can cause genetic mutations, but how serious can they be? I am very concerned about this because I was being exposed to x-rays a few times when I was very young (about 2 to 5, I cant really remember) and now I am a teenager but my body is not growing at all; I am very thin and I can see all my ribs clearly. Is this caused by genetic mutation?
Thanks in advance.
No it is not. It is quite normal for teenagers to be very thin because all the energy is taken up by growth. I am like that too.
And you must understand, exposure to x-rays doesn't mean you WILL have mutations it means you CAN have mutations. Your body has a lot of ways to fix the damage caused by x-rays. And even if they are caused, your children will have them, not you "As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. You will see if you are mutated or not after you have kids
I used to deal with radioisotop 125I couple years ago, it is said that the radiation could sterilize individuals. Pff I have no kids yet, I hope I got nothing bad to myself aww ![]()
Even though I have absolute faith in your knowledge, but I find it really weird about my body. I'm only 1.64m and about 40kg; so you can picture how thin I am. I also have a very weak immunity system, often getting sick. So this is also not caused by genetic mutation?
Thanks in advance.
By the way Dr...have you married yet?? Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
@victor
As much as I know DrStein is married, and Stein is her husband's surname. Am I right Dr? And why not having a child without a husband? @intj I think you are only thin. That's all, you can go see a doctor to gain weight. No genetic mutation-that is known- causes a normal individual whose only problem is being thin. It matters not how strait the gate

You need to take a closer look at your diet. Go have some tests done, i bet they will tell you that you lack things. Start eating more and go to the gym. However ask the people there what you can do so you won't stop growing.
PS: how old are you? you will continue to grow until you are 18-21 "As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
Hi again, I am really grateful for all the replies you've given me.
Is this just caused by my diet? Thanks in advance.
well eat healthy is my advice mate
if weak lungs are in your genetics then its a problem for you to overcome via training yourself to breath deeper and better, when your eatin right and have more energy id also say you could use some exercise to get some muscle on those bones! i personally like to go swimmin for an hour or two every week, this sunday i did 70 lengths, 20 of em full out and thats nackerin! as for ur immune system that can only get better with eatin the right foods, check the labels see whats in it, if you know wats good then eat it, for instance magnesium is good for muscles, nerves and all that, calcium good for bones, look up your inorganic ions and see whats good for ya just a helpin hand heres a lsit of the inorganic ions: calcium Sodium Magnesium nitrates Potassium Chloride Phosphate get enough of these and youll be better in no time mind you dont eat too much of em cos that can be bad too rich fruits like bananas and other such should get you these precious body enhancing materials, i don't know of many others mind you cos it was a while ago since ive done inorganic ions, good to revise it know though
Victor: Nope
Poison: You seem take my words seriously intj: You should do general check up I think, and see a nutrition specialist to consult your diet. I am sure it is NOT mutation things. ![]()
hahaha..as I thought..
Oh, by the way..talking about radioactivity, I ever grab and hold 235-U till 2 minutes more... Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
