Hmmm... I use to be able to remeber this term but I can't quite remember what the temperature elevating protein released by WBCs is named...Anybody have any answers or guesses?

i think its pyrogen.
by the way if mods permit, in the same thread, i want to know how do pyrogens help us...
is it like- stimulus[=?]----->WBCs----->pyrogens------>higher temp.--
-----> more K.E. ...high reaction rate[= higher chances of collission of WBCs/Abs or other immunoproteins with the pathogen]------>higher chances killing or blocking certain pathogen.

If this is the mechanism, then, this improvement in the chances of killing due to pyrogenesis occurs for every pathogen irrespective of stimulator pathogen but is magnitudally different for different pathogens.

Pyrogens? not IL-2....

antigens - APCs (granulocytes and macrophages) - Th1 - IL-2 - increasing hypothalamus thermostate - B-cell proliferation and plasma cell differentiation - activated Tc....

IL-2 is a cytokine, a T-cell growth factor.

Some examples of pyrogen are IL-1-alpha, IL-1-beta, IL-6, TNF family; all are cytokines produced by macrophage.

But IL-2 is secreted by macrophage to affect hipothalamus and increase the body's temperature isn't it?
