question about blood from respirationhi, i have this question from a bio12 exam
which of the following substance formed during internal respiration counteracts a decrease in blood pH? A. oxyhemoglobin B. carbonic anhydrase C. reduced hemoglobin D. carbaminohemoglobin the answer is C, but i dont' really get the why can someone please exlain to me about how the pH, oxygen, Co2, Co, HCo3, hemoglobin....ect work in the blood, or relate to each other thank you very much
someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Oxygen is carried by Hb. But carbondioxide is usually carried in the structure of Hco3 in blood. Also note that CO2 makes the environment acidic. (a simple example: Cola has CO2 and it is acidic) Or in other words decreases the PH.
I don't quite remember but I believe the blood is a buffered solution and the buffer would keep the blood at a narrow pH range. Anyone remember what the weak acid/base is in this case?

Oxygen is carriend in the blood as oxyhemoglobine. 1% is disolved in the blood.
CO2 is carried 70% under the form of sodium carbonate and potasium carbonate(in some books none of these is mentioned but a calcium carbonate is mentioned- THIS IS NOT TRUE- CaHCO3 can not be in the blood-the body does not allow this). 23% is disolved in the blood and 7% is in the red blood cells as carbohemoglobine(carboaminohemoglobine- it is the same thing) I could tell you more detalies but i am lazy "I have no intention of stopping anytime soon.
