is ATP a stable molecule?when is a molecule stable?
is ATP a stable molecule?
hmm im not sure if ATP is a molecule.. because its ''energy'' so ehh..
but i m thinkin if stable molecule is stable maybe it because of the bonds.. each atoms have different # of ions for diffent energy levels (1st level: 2 2nd level:8 and 3rd level is 7) so dependin on which atoms. for example H2O. Hydrogen have only one so it need one more ions to be more stable. and since oxygen have 6 ions on the outer most level, it can combine with 2 hydrogen makin it more stablee.. i hope that wat you meant if not then...... forget it -.-
It is called metastable, basically it will spontaneous broken down, but it is slow. Or in other words, delta g is -7 kJ / mol, but the activation energy is big
Think of it like strinking a match. The match doesn't burn by itself. You need to rub it against something and then it will burn The nasty milkman
Just to correct a few thingds from mistress turtle:
-ATP is a molecule! It's not just energy, the energy is released by the breaking of one bond (between the second and third phosphate). -As for your rather confuse explanation on the bonding rules, atoms have electrons not ions. For the answer, blackmangoes told everything. Patrick
